Basic tour cost (without climbing to the upper craters):

During this excursion you will :

  • Explore the basalt gorge of the Alcantara River and its amazing canyon
  • Travel back in time by travelling along the foot of Etna on the historic Circumetnea train.
  • Conquer the highest active volcano in Europe (southern slope).

Duration: 8 hours


Options for climbing Etna:


  • 1) Journey to Etna's base station at Rifugio Sapienza (1900m above sea level). Here you will have opportunities to see the extinct craters of Silvestri, as well as stunning panoramic views

  • 2) Upper craters

Ascent by cable car to the upper craters (2800 metres above sea level), then take jeep buses to the upper side craters and walk there with an alpine guide. Here you will have the opportunity to observe the crater activity at the top from a safe distance


* Climbs to the permitted crater zones of Etna are always accompanied by CAI (Italian Alpine Club) guides, who are responsible for the safety of travellers
